Hispanic Marketing, Second Edition: Connecting with the New Latino Consumer (Paperback)
By Felipe Korzenny

Review & Description

Hispanic Marketing: Connecting with the New Latino Consumer is about using cultural insights to connect with Latino consumers. It's about marketing strategies that tap into the passion of Hispanic consumers so that marketers and service providers can establish the deep connections they need for a successful campaign. This book provides an understanding of the Latino consumer that goes beyond simplistic recipes.

This highly revised and expanded edition comes on the heels of new US Census figures: Hispanics now account for 53% of the US population growth since 2000, soaring to over 16% of the total population. Corporations are now realizing that they must incorporate Hispanic cultural values into their products, services, and communications.

This edition reflects and responds to the profound changes the Latino market has experienced since the first edition. It considers the way in which changes in cultural identity, immigration, economics, and market synergies need to be addressed in a new relationship with Hispanic consumers.

Twenty-five new industry case studies illustrate the chapters. These case studies show how brands from diverse categories have developed a cultural understanding of their Latino target and created campaigns that established strong bonds.

* Shows marketers how to better connect with the Spanish consumer, a $932 billion US market                                  * Fully updated to include 2010 census data ensuring all references are up to date to aid today's marketer to target this lucrative segment * Brand new coverage of hispanics online, 2nd and 3rd generation hispanics and how social media such as MySpace and Facebook affect this market segment aids marketers in planning most effectively

A Cast of Killers (Hardcover)

Review & Description

On February 1, 1922, the distinguished silent-film director William Desmond Taylor was shot to death in his Los Angeles bungalow by an unknown assailant. Reports of strange activities at the scene of the crime circulated soon after. When the police arrived, was the head of Paramount Studios burning a bundle of papers in the fireplace, and was a well-known actress searching the house for letters she claimed were hers? Despite a full-scale investigation, the case was never solved; for sixty years is has remained a lingering Hollywood scandal. In 1967, more than forty years after Taylor's death, the great King Vidor, whose directing credits include Northwest Passage, The Fountainhead, Duel in the Sun, and War and Peace, determined to solve the mystery, which had haunted him throughout his career, in order to make a film about it. Through his intimate knowledge of both the studios and the stars, he succeeded, where dozens of professional detectives had failed, in discovering the identity of the murderer. But because his findings were so explosive, he decided he could never go public and locked his evidence away. After Vidor's death in 1982, Sidney D. Kirkpatrick, Vidor's authorized biographer, gained access to the evidence and reconstructed the amazing story of Taylor's murder and Vidor's investigation. With a cast of suspects that includes the actress Mabel Normand, a reputed drug addict; the beautiful ingénue, Mary Miles Minter; Mary's domineering mother, Charlotte Shelby; Taylor's homosexual houseman; and Taylor's secretary, who bore an uncanny resemblance to Taylor's mysteriously elusive brother, this true crime story has all the elements of a classic murder mystery. Covered up for more than half a century, the full story can now be told in all its riveting, shocking detail. Read more

Review & Description

The Sri Lankan culture is rich with art, music, and design, nearly all of which have been excluded from Christian use for centuries. The Protestant Church in Sri Lanka almost exclusively looks, sounds, and feels Western. Local Christians have, however, in recent times begun to see the need that they have for making their times of worship relevant to the people in their communities. Among the aspects that could be 'contextualized' is the music used by the Christian community for times of worship. Though it is still by no means the norm, leaders in churches of various denominations have indeed been striving towards a more culturally relevant time of musical worship. The purpose of this study is to give possible practical ideas as to how one can incorporate local styles of music into the Sinhala-speaking Sri Lankan church. I look at ideas that have been tried, and report the stories given by Sri Lankan Christians as to what their church/organization has done in the area of incorporating local styles of music.
